Homemade Beef Burgers with Caramelised Onions and Potato Wedges

Juicy homemade beef burgers topped with sweet caramelised onions and cheese, served with crispy oven-baked potato wedges.

Ingredients

  • 600 g beef mince
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 4 burger rolls
  • 800 g potatoes, cut into wedges
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • lettuce and tomato for serving
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Toss the potato wedges with olive oil, salt and pepper and bake for 30 to 35 minutes until crisp.
  3. Combine the mince with Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt and pepper.
  4. Shape into four burger patties.
  5. Melt the butter in a frying pan and gently cook the onions until soft.
  6. Add the brown sugar and continue cooking until the onions are golden and caramelised.
  7. Cook the burger patties in a hot pan or on a griddle for about 4 to 5 minutes per side or until cooked to your liking.
  8. Top each patty with cheese and allow it to melt.
  9. Toast the burger rolls lightly.
  10. Assemble with lettuce, tomato, beef patties and caramelised onions and serve with the wedges.
