Take on one of the Garden Route's most rewarding hiking adventures and experience breathtaking panoramic views from high above George. The Owl Trail is a challenging mountain hike that rewards every step with spectacular scenery stretching across the Hops Valley, the Klein Karoo, the majestic Swartberg Mountain Range to the north, and the Indian Ocean to the south. The trail climbs approximately 480 metres over a distance of 4 kilometres, reaching an elevation of 1,155 metres above sea level. While the ascent is demanding, the incredible viewpoints and abundant wildlife make the journey well worth the effort. One of the highlights of the route is passing close to the nesting area of a resident pair of Cape Eagle Owls. Keep an eye out for Klipspringers and Mountain Duikers, which are often spotted among the rocky slopes and fynbos along the trail. After approximately 1.25 kilometres, hikers reach the first summit and viewpoint, offering stunning photo opportunities and a chance to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding mountains and coastline before continuing to the peak.
